Gas spring safety devices

SV - OVER SPEED

CHALLENGE

Certain application conditions may lead to a free or uncontrolled return of the piston rod (e.g. when the plate or stamped part is suddenly released). Exceeding the Vmax indicated in the catalog may not only result in premature leakage but also cause structural damage to the gas spring. The uncontrolled expansion of the piston rod causes a sudden impact of the mechanical stop of the piston rod against the cartridge, which can break the mechanical stop of the piston rod and cause external projection of the piston rod.

SOLUTION

The Azolgas gas springs have the original SV design that consists of a safety system which  prevents external projection of the piston rod in case of free and uncontrolled return. The SV system provides double security: a piston rod mechanical stop and a second mechanism of controlled gas discharging. The SV solution is included in most of Azolgas gas springs. It controls the full discharge of the pressure and prevents external projection of the piston rod.

ADVANTAGES

  • Controlled and complete discharge
  • Prevents piston rod projection
  • Extra safety
  • Fitted as standard

TechNICAL INFORMATION

  1. SV safety system
  2. Mechanical stop

SP - OVER PRESSURE

CHALLENGE

Certain conditions, incidents, or errors in the application may result in an overpressure in the gas cylinders. Exceeding the Pmax indicated in the catalog separately for each type of spring may result in damage not only to the seals but also to the steel parts. Solid or liquid pollution introduced into the gas springs increas the pressure and temperature, causing gas leaks and reducing the service life of gas springs.

SOLUTION

Most Azolgas gas springs offer an SP security system that prevents overpressure above a maximum allowable limit (maximum design pressure). The SP is an additional security system, consisting of controlled and complete relieving of pressure, and preventing the projection of parts under pressure. The SP solution is included in most of Azolgas gas springs, is easily replaced by the user, can be used with all types of flanges, and prevents wrong manipulation.

ADVANTAGES

  • Controlled and complete discharge
  • Prevents projection of parts under pressure
  • Extra safety
  • Fitted as standard

TECHNICAL INFORMATION

  1. Pressure higher than allowable limit
  2. Rupture disc opening
  3. Controlled gas evacuation

SS - OVER STROKE

CHALLENGE

Certain conditions, incidents or errors in the application may result in an over-stroke in the gas spring. Exceeding the Smax indicated in the catalog may result in premature leakages and reduction of the service life of gas springs. Additionally, if the S (total working stroke) and the safety distance are exceeded, damage to the spring, or even explosion, may result.

SOLUTION

Most Azolgas gas springs provide an SS safety system that prevents the risks that occur when the stroke exceeds the designated limit.  The SS system adds extra security when the maximum allowed travel (total working stroke) is exceeded, discharging the gas spring pressure. The SS solution is  included in most of Azolgas gas springs, it discharges the pressure completely in a controlled way, and prevents the projection of parts under pressure.

ADVANTAGES

  • Controlled and complete discharge
  • Prevents projection of parts under pressure
  • Extra safety
  • Fitted as standard

TECHNICAL INFORMATION

  1. Stroke higher than allowable limit
  2. Activation of the SS safety system
  3. Controlled gas evacuation
